SUBTLE YOGA FOR TRANSFORMATION

Yoga Well / Yoga / SUBTLE YOGA FOR TRANSFORMATION

WHAT IS TRANSFORMATION?

The word transformation often implies that we must change into someone entirely different. However, from the perspective of psychosynthesis, transformation is about uncovering and understanding who we truly are, rather than becoming a completely different person.
Through inner work, we begin to notice deeply rooted physical and emotional tensions that we might mistakenly believe define us. While these tensions initially developed as coping mechanisms to manage life’s stresses, they can eventually hold us back. The layers of fear and pain trapped within these tensions prevent us from expressing our true selves and living authentically.

How Yoga Acts as a Somatic Tool
Yoga is one of the most effective somatic tools for integrating these wounded parts of ourselves. It combines physical and subtle techniques—such as asana, pranayama, mantra, and meditation—to clear energetic blockages, free trapped emotions, and pave the way to becoming more fully YOU.
The core components of subtle yoga include:

  • Asana (Physical Postures): Helps release physical tension held in body tissues by creating specific shapes that target different muscle and tissue groups. For example, Trikonasana (Triangle Pose) can release blockages in the hips, legs, and spine by stretching and toning the relevant areas.
  • Pranayama (Breathwork): Activates the parasympathetic nervous system (the rest-and-digest branch of the autonomic nervous system), bringing a deep sense of calm and presence to both mind and body.
  • Mantra (Sounding/Chanting): Introduces specific vibrations into our energy field, fostering greater mental clarity, inner peace, and connectedness.
  • Visualization & Meditation: Harnesses the power of the imagination to generate positive mental and emotional states using color, shape, and symbol.

In a nutshell, transformation is not about becoming someone else but becoming a more fully integrated version of yourself by shedding the layers of stress and tension to reveal your true, integrated self.

SUBTLE YOGA FOR TRANSFORMATION COURSE

8 weeks starting July 2nd 2026

This course is designed to facilitate meaningful transformation by weaving together subtle yogic practices and gentle movement. The primary emphasis of the course will be placed on techniques that access deeper layers of awareness, helping you to connect with your authentic self and release embedded patterns of tension.

In the context of yoga, ‘subtle’ refers to practices that address not only the physical body but also the prāṇic and mental sheaths. Unlike purely physical postures, subtle yoga works to clear energetic blockages, soothe the nervous system, and cultivate mental clarity.

Each 90-minute class will offer a holistic blend of the following elements:

  • A short, gentle asana sequence: Designed to release physical tension and create space in the body, these movements help you tune in to the present moment and lay the groundwork for deeper practices. The asana work will occasionally include the application of marma points (sensitive points around the body).
  • A pranayama practice: Simple yet effective breathwork techniques activate the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation and enhancing energy flow throughout the body.
  • A guided meditation: Using visualisation, symbolism, or mindfulness, this segment cultivates positive mental states and supports emotional healing.
  • Yoga Nidra: A deeply restorative practice, Yoga Nidra guides you into a state of conscious relaxation, providing an opportunity to access the subconscious and foster transformation from within.

To anchor your journey, each class is built around a purposeful theme. You may choose to focus your intention on a particular resolution or aspiration that you wish to manifest over the eight-week course. Alternatively, you are welcome to approach the practice with a spirit of surrender—allowing yourself to let go, trust the process, and see where the practice guides you. This thematic approach encourages both personal growth and self-discovery, supporting you in becoming a more integrated, authentic version of yourself.

At the start of each class, there will be a short introduction to a theme. Here is a breakdown of what we will be covering in the 8 week programme:

  • Week 1: Foundations of Psychosynthesis & Yoga: Understanding how tension patterns manifest physically and emotionally.

  • Week 2: Breath and the Nervous System: Learning Pranayama techniques to move from stress to the parasympathetic (rest and digest) state.

  • Week 3: Releasing Physical Blockages (Hips & Spine): Deep-dive Asana work targeting deeply held physical tensions.

  • Week 4: Reclaiming Trapped Energy: Somatic techniques to release the fear or pain associated with holding patterns.

  • Week 5: The Power of Mantra: Using specific vocal vibrations to foster mental clarity and connectedness.

  • Week 6: The Inner Landscape (Visualization): Using color, shape, and symbol to create positive internal states.

  • Week 7: Living Authentically: Bridging the gap between the mat and your daily life.

  • Week 8: Synthesis & Integration: A roadmap for continuing your transformation at home.

For those who sign up for the full programme, a PDF of the chapter on Yoga from my latest book will be included.
